Did you know that a teacher asks an average of 300-400 questions a day? A job where it is as exhausting as it is rewarding. A job where you wear many hats including teacher, nurturer, subject leader, behaviour analyst, friendship mediator, first aider, parent liaison officer but to name a few.
Teaching is a unique job where you could go from unpicking a text in depth in guided reading, writing a diary entry in English and doing long multiplication in maths and that is just in the morning! The afternoons alone bring a whole host of subjects and lessons that need a vast and substantial range of knowledge. You could be stepping back in time in a history lesson, exploring the world in geography, playing a ukulele in music or creating a sculpture in art. You could also be doing science experiments, learning about mental health in PSHE or gaining some culture in a French lesson. Not to mention the individual care for students, the educational plans, the interventions, the parent meetings, the planning, the preparation of resources, the reports, the business meetings, the staff meetings and many many more things on the never ending to do list!
So as another week comes to an end and we get ever closer to the end of term, it is time to pause and reflect on all the wonderful teachers/LSAs in our lives and the excellent job they all do.
Being a teacher myself, I have inside knowledge of how tirelessly these people work and how they dedicate their lives to the job and I also know that teachers can be very fond of a tipple come the end of a relentlessly busy year 🤫.
